2006年8〜10月に4例の寝床内気候を測定した。3例がポリエステルの堅わた布団、1例が綿布団を敷き布団として使用し、4例中3例が防水シーツを常用していた。寝床内温度と湿度は、使っている寝具に違いがあっても、成人の快適な寝床内湿度である50〜60%に比べ、80%前後と非常に高く、その上体はある程度の時間持続して認められた。これは、成人の場合、寝床内の温度、湿度が高くなると、寝返りが誘発され無意識に寝床内の環境を快適に保っているのに対し、3〜5ヵ月の乳児では、眠っている時の体動がほとんどないためであろうと思われる。これまでの成人を対象とした研究から、防水シーツの寝床内気候に与える影響として、皮膚に悪影響を及ぼしかねない高い湿度が報告されている(池田他、2005)が、防水シーツの使用に関して、母親は特に注意を払っておらず、ベビー用組布団を購入したさいにセットだったので、そのまま使用しているという程度であった。寝具の違いでは、ポリエステルの堅わた布団は、綿布団より、寝床内温度・湿度ともに、高い傾向があり、ポリエステルの堅わた布団のなかでも、体表面にあたる側をウエーブ状に加工したもの(製作会社は、へたりを少なくして耐久性を高めるためと説明)は、そうでないものに比べ、寝床内湿度が低いようであった。これらの結果から、綿わたや、表面がウエーブ状に加工された敷き布団は、一般的なポリエステルの堅わた布団に比べ湿度の面でよいと思われるが、使用している寝具や部屋の状況に差があること、季節による違いを考えると、今後継続して症例数を増やし分析する必要がある。しかしながら、防水シーツを使うと湿度が高くなりやすいため、当たり前のように常用するのではなく、状況により使用するよう母親に情報を提供する必要性など、看護の示唆を得ることができた。
