本研究課題では更新世末期から完新世初頭の社会変化の究明を研究課題としている。最終年度である今年度は、後期旧石器時代後半期の社会変化の評価を行うことと、成果のとりまとめを目的とした。前者については、本研究課題に関連して一昨年度より進めている栃木県高原山黒曜石原産地遺跡群剣ヶ峰地区の発掘調査を行った。その結果、後期旧石器時代後半期の小型石槍の時期の黒曜石採掘壙が検出された。この事実は、当該時期にそれ以前の回廊状の往還移動を行っていた居住形態から、中心的な生業領域が発生したとする予測を裏付けるデーターとして理解された。次に石材の採掘行為について考察するために、先史時代の採掘壙遺跡について類例を探索し比較研究を行うための資料収集と遺跡踏査を行った。その過程で従来注意されていなかった東北地方の珪質頁岩の採掘壙遺跡が秋田県いて検出されていたことが判明したためその遺跡の現地踏査を行った。他に従来から知られていた、長野県黒曜石産地の黒曜石採掘壙の遺跡、および奈良県の安山岩の採掘壙の遺跡を見学、踏査した。さらに、イギリスのノーフォークとウェストサセックスの新石器時代の採掘壙遺跡の現地踏査と資料見学を行った。白亜紀石灰層に包含されるフリントの採掘壙遺跡であり、日本の事例との違いと共通性を確認した。そして、先史時代の採掘壙についての通時代的な比較研究を行う見通しが得られたため、これは来年度以降に成果としてまとめる予定である。本研究課題に関連して継続的に行っている石器石材の産地調査については、今年度は能登半島において従来フリントと評価されてきた玉髄の産地の探索を行った。その結果、能登半島先端部の特定の地層のみから産出することが分かった。最後に本研究課題の成果のとりまとめとして、後期旧石器時代の初頭から後半期までの居住形態の変化について、回廊状の往還移動の変遷とその崩壊及び領域における中心地の発生を焦点に据えた「回廊領域仮説」を提唱した論文を作成し学会誌に投稿した。
