本年度は、ます、平成17年度・18年度の作業の補遺を行った。平安鎌倉時代・室町南北朝時代の仮名書状を画像ファイルとして電子化し、データに追加してデータベースの充実化をはかった。一方で、近代以降の仮名書状の影印資料や写真版を収集し、古代中世の仮名書状と同様に、スキャナで読み込む・デジカメでとりこむなどして電子画像化し、データベースの作成を行った。とくに、同一筆者でまとまった分量をもち、先行研究もあるものとして、夏目漱石の書簡、坂本龍馬の書簡、などの画像データを作成した。近代の仮名書状は、近代以前の仮名書状の書記スタイルの変遷と単純に同一線上において考えるわけにはいかず、いくつかの点でそれまでの仮名書状とは異なっており、慎重に扱うべきである。たとえば、漱石や一葉など作家の場合は、その表記や書記のありようが活版印刷されたものに残されている場合があり、自筆の仮名書状との比較の点で有効である。その反面、活版印刷物の表記と自筆の表記の各々の位置づけを明確にしなければ、両者のちがいが何を反映しているのかが、あいまいなままとなってしまう。もう一点は、言語政策の問題である。明治30年小学校令におけるひらがな字種の統一など、教育・出版に関する政策がどのように自筆資料にかかわってくるのかは、無視できない。上記のような大きなちがいはあるものの、巻紙に墨と筆で書くという道具の点などで共通している面もあり、両者を比較し考察を加えた。
