项目摘要

本年度は、対人コミュニケーション過程を、対人葛藤方略及び依頼表現の観点から質問紙調査を行った。特に,対人葛藤方略と依頼表現の言語的特徴と面子意識との関連について調査を親密性,社会的地位の関連から検討した。その結果心理的構成概念である対人葛藤処理方略と,実際の言語表現とには関連があることを,カテゴリカル重回帰分析を通して明らかにした。また依頼表現に関しては,自由記述および評定方法を用いて、言語表現と面子意識との関連を調査したところ,限定的ではあるが、依頼の談話構造と面子意識,対人関係(親密性・社会的地位)が関連することが示唆された。特に、実際の依頼が発話上最後に来る場合が最も丁寧であり,自己承認面子との関連が見られた。英語教育との関連では,英語母語話者に対する依頼表現と日本人教授に対する依頼表現との比較を行なったが,英語母語話者に対しては親密性が影響を及ぼし,日本人教授に対するよりも親密性の高い言語表現が適切であると判断される傾向にあった。このことから,英語教育において、社会心理的及び社会言語学的側面を重視した英語教育の必要性が示唆され,英語教師自身が本側面に精通していることが重要であると考えられる。なお、今回面子意識の尺度化についても検討を行い,従来の理論とほぼ一致する自己承認、自己独立、他者承認、自己独立的な面子が抽出された。しかし,本来年度内に予定していた比較文化研究は,尺度作成および妥当性検証に費やされてしまったため完了することはできなかったが,今後比較文化調査を継続して行い、言語・文化間の違いについて更に検討を行う予定である。
