项目摘要

平成19年度科学研究費補助金を受け、引き続き中堅企業のトップの意思決定と事業展開について研究を進めた。研究目的は、中堅企業を経営学の視点から研究対象として取り上げ、従来の大企業研究をベースとした理論とは切り離して理論的基盤を築き、フィールド・サーベイ、インタビュー・サーベイによって独自のデータを収集し、検証を行うことであった。国内出張においては、東京周辺(東京8社)だけでなく山口、岡山、兵庫、静岡、長野といった比較的千葉から離れた地方中堅企業のフィールド・サーベイを行い、これまで得られなかった資料の入手に恵まれた。この結果、8年余り掛けて続けてきた社長インタビュー調査は100社を超え、そろそろ何らかの形にまとめる必要が出てきた。また、日本経営学会の全国大会において、自らの研究成果に基づいて議論を交わすことによって、研究のさらなる発展を図ることができた。国外出張は行わなかった。これらの助成を受けた研究の結果、得られた新たな知見は、下記のとおりである。現在の中堅企業が何故中堅企業たりえるか、を考えた場合、一番の要素は社長の飽くなき成長欲求である。野心・執念と言っても良い。その成長欲求を支えるのが、技術、ノウハウである。それを、企業の方針に沿って組織で活用できるようになれば独自の技術力になる。ただし、その技術力が業界その他でどのレベルにあるかを常にチェックしておかないと、正しい意思決定ができないため、自己認識能力が問われる。トップが自らの問題意識に基づいて自社の将来を考え、自発的に意識改革できているかどうか、そして組織として学習する仕組みが構築しているかがポイントである。以上が、平成19年度の成果であるが、中堅企業成長の理論的基盤、それに基づく大量観察まで至っていない。まだ課題は山積しており、それに回答を与える研究を続けていく必要がある。
