本研究では、高次に統合された能力-問題解決力や思考力、論理的判断力-を大問形式による多肢選択式で測ろうとする問題に着目して、各受験者の解答方略の推定を行うと共に、解答方略の多様性と設問の特徴、解答方略と成績の関係などの分析を行った。歩く方角や曲がる角度に関する記述を与えて、その記述から読み取った条件に合う方角や、条件を満たさない方角を選択させる大問に関して、問題冊子の余白に残されたメモ描きをもとに各受験者の解答方略を推定した。複雑な条件を吟味する必要のある設問では、体系化や抽象化による工夫を加えた多様な解答方略が用いられる傾向や、複数の解答方略を併用する傾向がみられた。体系化や抽象化による工夫を加えた解答方略の使用の有無は、理数系を中心とする教科の得点との間に弱い正の相関を示しており、教科の知識の有無を直接問わない問題においても、その解答方略の違いに教科の学力が反映される可能性が示唆された。
