リスク社会と規範についての概括的導入を行い、続いて、リスク社会と道徳・連帯の問題を詳細に検討し、これを特にリスク社会における信頼の問題として理論的に検討した。本研究を貫く論点である個人と社会を「切る」ということの可能性について、ルーマンの業績を参照しながら、「切る」ということの具体的あり方について検討したものである。本研究によって得られたリスクと公共性、連帯と監視についての社会学的見通しは、今後、「リスクと監視と個人化の行方-個人と社会を「切りつつ結ぶ」社会学の可能性-についての研究」として引き継がれ、更に論点が深められる予定である。最終報告書として『リスク社会と道徳規範-社会と個人を「切る」社会学の可能性についての研究-』(平成21年3月付、全73頁、印刷製本済)を作成した。
