ライフサイクルコスト(LCC)を考慮した予防保全を行うため, 現状診断手法として電磁波,弾性波を用いた農業水利施設の非破壊検査手法の開発を行った。また, LCCの計算に必要な構造物の劣化予測のために, 損傷理論を用いた力・水・熱の連成解析手法を開発し,降雨や気温の変化による劣化予測を行った。豪雨による越流破壊や水圧破壊のメカニズムを解明するために室内実験を行い, 破壊予測手法を開発した。そして,農業水利施設の社会的な価値も含めた多面的価値の評価手法について検討した。平成16年の台風23号の淡路島での被害データを用いて, リスクマネジメント手法について提案した。
