1.長谷川三郎に関する作品・資料調査を甲南学園長谷川三郎記念ギャラリー、宇都宮美術館で実施した。また、従来、一部しか知られていなかった長谷川三郎の写真作品の画像を収集し、データベース化を進めた。今後、この作業を進めていくことによって、長谷川という作家の全体像がより明確になるはずである。2.瑛九の油彩画とフォトデッサンに関する作品調査を、宮崎県立美術館で行った。また、愛知県立美術館の山田光春アーカイヴを調査し、瑛九に関する基礎調査を進めた。特に、戦前期の瑛九の活動に関する新たな事実の発見があった。3.山田光春のガラス絵に関する作品調査を、愛知県立美術館、宮崎県立美術館で行った。山田は、主に瑛九研究者として知られており、作家としての活動は本格的に行われてこなかった。山田のガラス絵を調査・研究することは、長谷川三郎、瑛九の制作とも関連性や1930年代後半の前衛美術の流れを再考する上で重要な意味がある。4.上記1～3の基礎調査を踏まえ、メディア環境やメディア・テクノロジーとの関わりという観点から、1920年代～50年代の日本の前衛芸術を総体的に考察した。その成果の一部は、『昭和期美術展覧会の研究』所収の論文として発表し、さらに現在も学位申請論文「近代日本の前衛芸術とメディア、テクノロジー」として発表準備を進めている(2010年度提出予定)。同様のテーマから日本の前衛芸術を考察した先行研究は、個人作家論にとどまっていたが、本研究では近代日本の視覚文化をを総体的に捉えようとしている。その意味において近代日本美術史研究に新たな視点をもたらすはずである。
