Through a contrastive linguistic study of Japanese and English, we investigated how Japanese and English grammar are affected by discourse factors related to the type of discourse and its internal structure. In particular, we showed (1) what parts of grammar are affected by different discourse types, (2) what major cognitive factors characterize the discourse types affecting grammar, and (3) how Japanese and English vary as to the parts of grammar affected by different discourse types.

通过对日语和英语的语言对比研究，我们探讨了与语篇类型及其内部结构有关的语篇因素对日语和英语语法的影响。特别是，我们展示了（1）语法的哪些部分受到不同话语类型的影响，（2）影响语法的话语类型的主要认知因素是什么，以及（3）日语和英语在受不同话语类型影响的语法部分方面有何不同。
