大学の理工系学部情報系学科の学生にとって, プログラミングの学習は必須である.多くの情報系学科では, 1年生からプログラミング教育がはじまり, その後3年生くらいまで, 積み重ね的な教育を行っている, このため, 初学者が初期にプログラミングでつまずくと, その後の学習に大きく影響を与えてしまう可能性がある, 本研究では, 初学者がプログラムを1行1行トレースする能力を身につけさせるために, ビジュアルプログラムトレーシングツールの開発を行った.開発したシステムは次のような特徴をもつ.(1)ソースプログラムからフローチャートを自動的に生成し, 学習者が指でなぞりながらトレースする機能を持つこと(2)類似問題を容易に出題可能な機能を持つこと(3)変数の内容を表示する機能を持つこと(4)場所と時間に制限されず, プログラム開発環境がなくてもWebブラウザがあれば学習が可能なこと
