本研究では細胞の癌化に伴う細胞膜糖タンパク質糖鎖のガラクトシル化の変化の有無、及びβ-1, 4-Ga1T II及びV遺伝子の転写制御機構を解析した.本研究から、細胞の癌化に伴う糖鎖のガラクトシル化、及びこのガラクトシル化機構に関わる糖鎖遺伝子の転写制御機構の一端が初めて明らかになった.また、転写因子の発現を制御することで癌細胞の糖鎖のガラクトシル化を制御し、癌細胞の悪性形質を抑制できる可能性が示唆された.
