はじめに強大音響に曝露されることにより、難聴になる動物モデルを作製した。次にその難聴モデル動物において、内耳有毛細胞(聴覚を司る神経細胞)の細胞死(アポトーシス)に至るメカニズムを詳細に解明した。最後にその結果に基づき、難聴を治療する方法を種々のアプローチで検討し、聴覚機能・内耳形態の両面において難聴を治す可能性のある結果が得られた。
