当該社会に生きる人びとの社会的結合の変化・持続の検証という視点から、20世紀のアジアでみられた社会革命とその後の農村コミュニティの復興という現象を広く比較考察するための基礎作業として、民主カンプチア政権(ポル・ポト政権)期以後のカンボジア農村とその周辺国において現地調査をおこなうとともに、調査対象国の研究者との間に研究ネットワークを構築した。
