The aim of this study is to examine the awareness of work-life balance (WLB) among the nursing personnel at a university hospital in Japan. A questionnaire was sent to 1,236 nursing personnel working at a university hospital and 1,081 (87, 5%) responses received. The result can be summarised as follows : (i) The concept and significance of WLB has not yet been established among nurses in Japan, (ii) Three factors were find which nurses need as working environment, 1st Quality of life benefits,2nd flexible working style, 3rd lifelong learning, (iii) Nurses who reported good WLB also reported higher job satisfaction and job motivation.

本研究旨在探讨日本一所大学医院护理人员的工作生活平衡意识。一份问卷被发送到1,236名护理人员在大学医院工作，收到1,081（87.5%）的答复。研究结果发现：（1）日本护士对工作平衡的概念及重要性尚未建立;（2）护士需要的工作环境因素有三个，第一是生活质量福利，第二是灵活的工作方式，第三是终身学习;（3）工作平衡好的护士也报告了较高的工作满意度和工作动机。
