本研究課題は、ユタの「口寄せ」に注目し、「死者の声」を聞くと観念される行為が、依頼者のグリーフワークに与える影響について検討することを目的とするものである。平成26年度は、最終年度であるため、過去２年間の研究成果を踏まえた上での追加調査に重点が置かれた。具体的には、①平成26年6月に実施したフィールド調査、②追加資料の文献調査が挙げられる。まず、フィールド調査では、これまでに聞き取り調査を実施した関係者に、追加での聞き取りを行い、不明箇所を確認することができた。また、沖縄戦の慰霊の日である6月23日に、これまでの調査対象者に関連する慰霊祭に参加し、参与観察を行った。文献調査では、継続的に調査を行ってきた沖縄県立図書館郷土資料室を中心に追加調査を実施した。これにより分類作業のなかで明らかとなった不明箇所を確認することができた。今年度はフィールド調査、文献調査共に予定していた追加調査を実施することができたが、調査結果をまとめる予定であった後半の期間に療養を要する事態となり、これまでの成果を十分にまとめることができなかった。回復を待って、今後、随時成果をまとめ、公表していきたい。本研究課題の調査を通して、沖縄の戦後におけるユタの「口寄せ」に関する社会的な需要の状況を確認することができた。体系的な資料の整理などは、沖縄のシャーマニズムと近代化との関係を考える上でも、重要な成果といえる。ユタと依頼者とのやり取りのなかで「口寄せ」などのグリーフワークの役割を検討した研究は少ないため、研究の端緒を開くことができた意義は大きい。
