The Police under the Absolute Monarchy : the Marcechaussee in Normandy

I would like to study how a state ruled his subjects or the nation and how the latter defended against the former, especially under the French Absolute Monarchy, when governmental institutions were better established. The marechaussee was a rural police force which served both as a royal army keeping order particularly in the countryside and on highways, and as a royal special court judging without appeal. I examined it in Upper Normandy from 1720 to 1750 as the first step to re-examine the ruling system of the French Absolute Monarchy.
