Philosophy of Respect and Publicness

本研究揭示了“公共性”在西方哲学史上的意义与“尊重”概念的关系。我讲述了尊重概念的历史，将其与自我意识的关系放在一起，并明确了尊重与公共性之间的联系。与传统的命名相反，“自尊”并不是对“自己”的“尊重”。相反，“自尊”在法律上比一般的“尊重”更原始。“尊重”不过是“自尊”的产物，而“自尊”后来又延伸到了他人身上。基于历史记载，我开始仔细审视和阐明公共领域的功能轮廓，公共领域应该是尊重充分发挥功能的交流场所。

This study revealed the meaning of "ublicness" in the history of Western philosophy in relationship with the concept of "espect". I gave an account of the history of the concept of respect putting it in perspective of its relationship with the self-awareness and made the connection clear between respect and publicness. In opposition to the conventional naming,"self-respect" is not the "respect" given to and by "oneself". On the contrary,"self-respect" is quid juris more primordial than "respect" in general."Respect" is nothing but the offspring of "self-respect", and the "self-respect" extended afterwards toward others. Based on the historical account, I set out to scrutinize and elucidate the outline of function of the public sphere that should be the place of the communication where the respect is fully functional.
