项目摘要

2011年度は前年度に引き続き、肯定と否定の中間領域としての法副詞に着目し、(i)no doubtless, undoubtedly;(ii)certainly, surely, definitelyの2つの類義語のgroupを分析対象とした。法副詞は文における生起位置が自由であることから、その多義性や文法化、さらには話者の心的態度や談話といった幅広い領域に関わり、英語における言語使用を捉える上で重要な現象であると言える。年度前半には、(i,ii)の表現についての共時的分析を通時的考察へと視野を広げ、定量的な分析に基づく記述を行った。具体的には、The Penn-Helsinki Parsed Corpora of Hlstorical Englishという歴史コーパスやLOB,FLOBという1960,1990年代のコーパスに基づく大量のデータを用いることで現代に至る幅広い時代を調査し、それらの発達を記述した。特にno doubtとsurelyについては語用論的な機能の拡大が見られ、同じ法副詞の中でも文法化の発達の度合いが異なり、現代英語における多義性・多様性に繋がっているという点を主張した。これらの成果は中英語・近代英語の国際学会であるMMECL2や現代言語学における談話関係の国際学会であるConConで研究発表を行い、それぞれ論文にまとめた。年度後半には、現代英語のno doubtを中心に様々なアプローチや手法に基づいた分析を行い、理論的考察へと深化させた。まず、SFLの過程構成の観点から、法副詞が生起する節の過程に着目することで、生起文脈の相違を客観的・視覚的に示し、同時に法副詞と命題部分との関係性を指摘した。この内容は日本機能言語学会で発表し、そのProceedingsにも寄稿し公刊される予定である。次に、実験的手法により談話的情報を引き出すことで、no doubtの談話機能の実証を試みた。(i)生起位置と(ii)節の主語(代名詞)という各要因の影響を調査し、(i)の要因の影響力の大きさや、(i)と(ii)の要因の組み合わせによる効果が得られた。この成果は日本語用論学会で発表を行い、そのProceedingsにも掲載される予定である。
