本研究は、ガーナ国クマシ市の金属加工業集積地にて行われた経営トレーニングプログラムの効果を分析することを通して、途上国における産業支援策を探ることを目的としている。トレーニングは2007年11月と2009年2月の計2回行われた。これらトレーニングの根本的な違いはトレーニング参加者の決定方法にあり、1回目のトレーニングではランダムに参加者を選んだのに対し、2回目のトレーニングでは1回目のトレーニングに参加しなかった企業経営者から参加を募り、経営者自らトレーニング参加を判断してもらった。今年度においては(1)トレーニング参加の決定要因、(2)トレーニングの企業生存への効果、(3)トレーニングのマネージメントや企業業績への効果について実証分析を行い、それぞれ以下のような結果が得られた。(1)二回目のトレーニングには、トレーニング前の業績が悪い企業の経営者ほど参加した。(2)1回目のトレーニングは二年後でも企業の生き残りに有意な効果があった一方で、二回目のトレーニングの企業生存への効果は有意ではなかった。これは二回目のトレーニングには業績の悪い企業ほど参加したので、トレーニングの効果が発揮される前に倒産してしまった可能性が考えられる。(3)二回目のトレーニングは台帳に注文・販売記録をつけるなど基礎的な経営手法や売上などの企業業績に有意な改善効果があった。また、一回目のトレーニングの二年後の効果は経営手法、企業業績ともに有意な効果は見られなかった。この点についてトレーニング効果が持続しなかったというよりは、トレーニングに参加しなかった経営者へのスピルオーバー効果が原因で有意な結果が測定できなかった可能性が記述統計分析では示唆されている。今年度はこれら実証分析のとりまとめと、国際学術誌への投稿するための論文を執筆し、また博士論文の執筆に尽力した。
