Analyzing the changes in the Japanese labor markets and the effects of government policies of the 1990s in the context of growth models with labor search frictions

With this project we have completed and published, or sent for publication several high quality research papers. The results of our project has been publicized and disseminated in both domestic and international workshops and conferences. We have also communicated the outcome of our research to some Japanese government institutions, such as RIETI in METI. The main findings of our project are that older and younger workers, as well as females were most affected by the labor market changes of the 1990s. We have also found that a technological progress slowdown explains a big part of the increase in unemployment observed over the 1990s.
