Molecular characterization of sensitized house dust mite allergens for the generation of tailor-made vaccine

Allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT) is the only promising treatment of allergic disorders, but current SIT has problems such as the risk of side effects. Objective of this study is to construct a recombinant house dust mite allergen library, and to apply those allergen molecules for the development of molecular diagnostics and immunotherapeutics. Here, we showed a successful and comprehensive production of 23 major house dust mite allergens as a functional recombinant proteins. By using those recombinant allergen molecules, we also developed a molecular diagnostic system that enabled us to determine sensitized allergens among mite-allergic individuals.
