A Sociological Study on Public Space from the Aspect of Living Environment: Focusing on Differences between Japanese and Chinese Public Garden

Public garden as the cultural setting has three characters as follows: the first aspect is the enlightenment that is going beyond genealogy of westernization, the second is the signalization of spaces, and the third is the symbolization of power and governing. Public garden, therefore, makes the sedimentation of people's actual time invisible and fixed at the present, and in addition, forces your feelings comfortable whether you feel so or not. In order for public garden to be more creative, we must directly question 'for whom this place is comfortable and good?' If so, we will be able to recognize that publicness in this place is local, not universal, and to have a way to change publicness for ourselves.
