International Comparative Study on Attitudes and Behaviours of University Students towards Studying Abroad.

通过对日本、中国和泰国研究型大学学生的调查，本研究得出以下主要发现：(1)在所有情况下，在三个国家的四所大学中，学生的留学态度和行为可以分为三种群体，即“积极”、“消极”和“浮动”群体。(2)这三组在不同病例中的分布不同；日本学生的一个显著特点是，大多数学生被归类为“流动”群体，而这在其他国家是看不到的。(3)在各种情况下，影响学生出国留学态度和行为形成的因素都是共同的；外语能力与大学的教育环境有着积极的影响。同时，每种情况下的影响因素和影响程度也有所不同；这些是学生的家庭背景和幼儿文化经历。

Drawing on surveys from students at research-oriented universities in Japan, China, and Thailand, this study presents the following main findings:(1) In all cases, at four universities in three countries, students can be categorized into three groups with regards to their attitudes and behavior of studying abroad, namely “positive,” “negative” and “floating” groups.(2) Distribution of these three groups varies among cases; one of the distinct characteristics of Japanese students is that the majority of students are categorized into the “floating” group, while this cannot be observed in other countries.(3) There are common factors that influence formation of students’ attitudes and behaviours toward studying abroad in all cases; foreign language ability and the educational environment of a university have positive impacts. At the same time, there are differences regarding factors and degree of influence in each case; these are students’ family background and early childhood cultural experiences.
