The present study revealed that the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in schizophrenic patients treated with antipsychotics was 59.3% for males and 58.9% for females. Almost no sexual dysfunction was correlated with prolactin, sex hormone, endotherial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) polymorphism (T786C, G894T), but some sexual dysfunction was correlated with the dose of antipsychotics. These findings suggest that sexual dysfunction may be due to the nonspecific effect of antipsychotics (e.g. dopaminergic, serotonergic, histaminergic, cholinergic, adrenergic action).
