Although the spin of balls pitched by baseball pitchers influence the their pitching performance, how the spin is produced with hand motion is unclear. In the present study I developed the system to measure ball spin and hand motion simultaneously, and analyzed the physical properties of such ball motion as perceived as "rising". Finger motions just before the ball release strongly influenced the ball spin rate. In those pitchers who threw "rising" ball, pitched balls had higher spin rate and spin axis closer to the horizontal plane.
