Comparative eye-traking study of great apes with respect to their understanding of self and others

An evlutinoary hypothesis posits that human intelligence is extraordinary expanded in the domain of social intelligence. The present study tackled this issue by conducting comparative study of chimpanzees, the closest living relatives of humans. In particular, the present study utilized an eye-tracker to investigate gaze behavior. The results indicated that there is no large difference in terms of recognition of physical world while there is a considerable difference in the recognition of social world as exemplified in understanding of intention underlying goal directed actions of others.
