国際関係論の理論、特にソフトパワーの議論およびネオリベラリストによる相互依存の議論について検討し、相互依存を発展させるネットワークの形成について議論を整理した。また1980年代のイラン外交におけるイスラームの役割についての先行研究について議論の整理を進めた。これらの結果、1980年代までのイスラームを通じて「革命の輸出」と呼ばれるムスリム社会におけるイスラーム的統治の実現／体制転覆を目論むイデオロギー外交が行われてきたことに対し、1990年代以降の現実主義的外交政策の転換のなかで非公式チャンネルとしてイスラームを通じたネットワーク形成の強化が図られ、イラン国家がソフトパワー外交の一環としてイスラーム法学者の国際派遣事業を組織化させてきたと結論づけた。イランによって強化されたネットワーク形成の結果、イラン国家とイラン国外のシーア派コミュニティとの間でイスラーム法学者の派遣を通じた相互依存形成の質的側面について国外コミュニティとイラン国家との間で形成されてきた受容‐供給関係が形成されてきた。マイノリティの立場にある国外のシーア派コミュニティにとって、コミュニティの維持を図るうえでモスクやイスラーム施設を運営していくうえでだけでなく、コミュニティの再統合にかかりイスラーム法学者の存在が不可欠となる需要が一方にあり、他方ソフトパワー外交としてのイスラームの活用を目論むイラン国家によるイスラーム法学者の供給が行われてきた。さらにイラン国家によって促進されてきた宗教教育を通じた供給における独占性についても明らかにした。こうした研究成果については、イラン国家の国内支配構造について論じた学位取得論文に、本研究成果であるイラン国家の対外戦略を補完するかたちで、1979年の革命以降のイランにおける政治構造と宗教アクターとの関係を明らかにした学術書として2015年1月に刊行した。
