今年度は主に次の４つの研究を行った。まず、"Demographics, Immigration, and Market Size"の論文について述べる。この論文は、少子高齢化の状況での、移民政策を通じた人口動態と経済の関連について共同で分析している。日米の数量的比較により、少子高齢化が市場に悪影響であること、移民受け入れが経済・人口成長の主要な力だと明らかにした。次に、"Quality or Quantity: Problem of Local Governments under Asymmetric Tax Competition"の論文について述べる。この論文は、昨年度から継続している研究であり、居住者へ課税する地方政府が、少子化対策と大学運営費支出を行い、能力が異なる若者を呼びこみあう競争をする状況を分析している。その結果、自治体の大学への支出額が、過大になる可能性を示した。現在は、労働市場の組入れを考慮した改訂中であり、将来英文査読付き雑誌への投稿を予定している。そして、"Skill biased technical change, demographics, and market size"の研究について述べる。この研究は、能力に異質性があり、それに応じて寿命と所得が決まる世代重複モデルの人口動態を考えている。結果として、技術進歩や貿易拡大による所得の集中により、人口が減少する可能性を示した。最後に、"Minimum Wage Competition"の論文について述べる。この論文は、最低賃金を変えることで、最低賃金付近で働く移民を動かし、失業率を変化させる政策の影響を分析している。結果として、労働者が移動しやすくなると、最低賃金が上昇する可能性を示した。これは、EU拡大後の最低賃金の上昇傾向に整合的な説明を与えうる。
