女性の労働力率や就業率について、学歴別の状況を統計から検討した。2000年前後の時期、OECD加盟国では、高学歴女性の就業率は高学歴以外の女性の就業率を20%ポイント程度上回る場合が多かったにもかかわらず 、当時日本では高学歴女性の就業率は62.7％、高学歴以外の女性の就業率は62.6％と、ほぼ同水準であった。本研究では、この「日本では高学歴女性の就業率が高くない」ことと、出産・子育て期に就業率が低下し40歳代以降に上昇する、いわゆる「M字型」の形状との関連を検討し、かつ、近年の女性の就業率の上昇によって、「高学歴女性が働いていない」状況にどのような変化がみられたのかを検証した。2020年の国勢調査によれば、（1）高学歴女性の就業率は、高学歴以外の女性の就業率を、3.7パーセンテージ・ポイント上回っていること、（2）しかし年齢階級別にみると、2020年においても、大卒の就業率が顕著に高いのは30歳代前半までであって、30歳代後半以降においては、就業率は短大高専卒・高卒とほぼ同程度であること、の2点がわかった。大卒女性については就業率はM字型ではなく、40歳代以降の就業率の上昇が小幅にとどまる「きりん型」であることが、以前から指摘されている。そこで、大都市に居住する大卒女性の「きりん型プロファイル」に地域差があるのかどうかを検討した。国勢調査（2020年の公表データ、および、2000年のオーダーメイド集計データ）を集計した結果、東京都23区や関西地域の大都市では、その他の大都市地域よりも、「きりん型」の傾向が強いことが、データの上ではわかった。これらの変化の要因や帰結については検証できていないが、それは次年度以降に検討したい。
