本研究では、20世紀前半、モンゴルにおけるロシア人や中国人の経済活動に着目し、キャフタ交易から資源開発への転換について検討を行うことを目的とし、主として20世紀前半、モンゴルにおける交易の変化と都市発展を中心に研究を進めつつある。本年度は主に国内で研究を実施予定であり、計画通りに電子機器類を購入し、資料の保存や整理を行った。また国内の大学附属図書館等において、文献調査や収集を行う予定であったが、新型コロナ・ウイルスの流行拡大により計画を変更し、外国から資料・文献を取り寄せ、収集することに注力した。近年中国では文書館の一次史料の刊行が相次いでいるが、これらを一部入手することができた。今年度の研究実績としては、熊本大学大学院人文社会科学研究部主催の研究会（「牧畜社会における適応と共生のメカニズムに関する歴史学・人類学的研究」）において「モンゴル《牧畜》社会における《他者》：文書に見る《共生》 」と題する報告を行った。ここでは，近代モンゴルの盟旗制度を手掛かりに，遊牧地域の人的結合を考察し、ハルハ・モンゴルの文書史料をもとに，モンゴルにおける「他者」（漢人，ロシア人など）に対する人的把握について考察したものである。また本研究課題とは直接関係はないが、滋賀県立大学の研究会において「蒙疆政権時代、オラーンチャブ盟の設立とその崩壊」と題する報告を行っている。さらに、ハルハ・モンゴルの森林の歴史的変遷に関する書籍（堀田あゆみ，渡邊三津子，鈴木康平編著『モンゴルにおける木材利用と森林後退：19世紀末から20世紀前半の写真より』）の新刊紹介を行った。いずれの場合も今後の研究の方向を考えるうえで有益であった。
