本研究は、出身階層間の教育格差に着目し、その発生原理を説明できる理論モデルの構築を目指すものである。これまでの教育格差研究の中で提示されてきた5つの理論仮説を数学的に表現し、それらが持つ特徴と、日本の教育システムの特徴を兼ね備えた統合モデルを作成する。これらを実データで検証しながら理論の説明力向上を図り、理論・実証の両面から教育格差を包括的に理論化する。初年度は、理論構築及び実証に必要なデータの定義をメインの作業に据えた。特に教育達成の不平等に関する巨大理論であるPierre Bourdieuの文化資本論は多様な論点を含むため、そのほかの理論との整合性の検討に先立ち、教育格差に関する本質的な要素を抽出する必要がある。本年では、P. Bourdieuの著作の中から特に意思決定に影響を及ぼす要素に着目した。また、実証分析においては、これまでの研究に引き続き、中学校選択の格差と教育選択の地域差に着目し、大規模社会調査データ（SSM調査データおよび政府統計データ）を用いて、格差構造の変動を分析している。中学校段階の学校選択について、国私立中学校の受験意思と進学行動に着目した分析では、おおむね戦後の格差構造は変化していないが、2000年代以降に多少の不平等化の兆候が見られる。この点について、詳細な分析を進めている。地域間格差は、高校卒業時点の進学行動に焦点を当て、高等教育機関の供給量が地域移動を含む進学行動に与える影響力を検証する。初年度までに、地域経済分析の理論を応用した教育異動モデルを構築した。ただしここまでのモデルは、一般化線形モデルとの結合に至っておらず、社会調査データでの検証をするためにはさらなる改良が必要である。
