理科教員養成に関連して、大学入学者選抜、入学者の教職に対する意識、大学における教員養成カリキュラム、教職専門と教科専門科目の履修状況、教育実習の形態とその効果、教員就職状況、大学院教育、現職教員の再教育システム、理科教育政策、などに関して日米間の過去の推移と現状の評価に関する以下の企画研究を行った。1,ジョージア大学の教育学部理科教育の大学院博士課程学生を、学術振興会の若手研究員として2ヶ月間広島大学に招聘し、広島大学における理科教員養成システム、附属中・高等学校における教育実習、広島県教育センターにおける現職教員の研修状況などに関する基礎調査を行い、その結果の概要を英文の報告書にしてアメリカの研究者に提供した。さらに、日本の学習指導要領などの基礎資料を英訳した。2,アメリカの「科学教育基準」「科学教育ベンチマーク」などの新しい理科教育カリキュラムの成立経緯、教育目的・目標、内容などに関する比較分析を行うとともに、ジョージア大学における理科教員養成システム、教育実習協力校における教育実習の実態、大学における教員再教育プログラムなどに関する、基礎資料収集を行った。3,以上の企画研究の結果、次年度からは本格的に、米国のジョージア大学研究者はNSFの予算を用い、広島大学研究者は学術振興会の予算を用いて、相互に訪問して2国間の比較研究を実施する準備が整った。
