项目摘要

本研究は近現代の文学における「他者」という問題系を、「自己閉塞」という視座から検討するものだ。従来の「他者論」的文芸批評は、他者を探そうという論点先取的な態度に陥りがちだったゆえに、自我の想定を超える、真に異質な他者の姿を捉え損ねてきた。この行き詰まりを打破するため、本研究はむしろ、内に閉じこもろうとする自我に注目する。自我の内閉性・閉塞性にこそ、却って「他者」に迫るヒントがあるのではないか。議論の拠り所となるのは、思想家エマニュエル・レヴィナスの展開した「他者論」と呼ばれる哲学的議論を、自己の内閉・孤絶といった観点から読み直そうとする最新の哲学研究の成果だ。プロジェクト初年度である本年度は、第一の課題として、レヴィナスの哲学を「自己閉塞」の観点を軸として集中的に読解する研究を進めた。これにより、従来レヴィナスの思想の核とされてきた〈自己の外なる「他者」へ向かう運動〉は、むしろ自我が他人から「絶対的」に「分離」されているという前提があってこそ初めて可能になるものと位置付けられているという事実を、言い換えれば彼の思想における「自己閉塞」というテーマの根本的重要性を、明らかにするに至った。また、この自我の内閉性という議論が、常に「入口」「家」「壁」「窓」といった空間的なメタファーに依拠し、場所論的なモチーフに支えられて展開されているという事情を、オットー・ボルノウやガストン・バシュラールの思想との対比も踏まえながら辿ることができた。以上の研究と並行して、第二の課題として、そうした思想的見地を踏まえた文学批評の準備も適宜進めた。とりわけ、R・M・リルケにおける「内」と「外」の問題に関して、レヴィナスの議論との比較・対照を経由することで新たな視座が開かれうる可能性を発見している。翌年度以降、成果としてまとめて公表する予定である。
