项目摘要

琉球王国時代における文書・ビジュアル史料からの禁武政策と空手道史の再検討を課題とした本研究は，琉球王国時代に書かれた文書史料には，武器や武術に関する新たな記述発見がないか，また同時代に描かれたビジュアル史料には，武器および武術が描かれていないか，あるいは琉球人と武器，または武術の様子が描かれているかどうかを調査・検討するものである．令和４年の夏に予定していた沖縄での史料調査は現地のコロナウイルス患者の増加で断念し、沖縄現地での第一次文書・ビジュアル史料調査を半年遅れて，令和５年２月から３月にかけて開始した．具体的には，この研究について琉球大学の琉球アジア文化科学教授および沖縄県立芸術大学・附属研究所琉球文化・歴史の名誉教授・准教授の琉球史・文化専門の研究者や博物館等の歴史資料整理員などと数回に渡り議論を交わし，琉球王国全般や沖縄における琉球王国時代(1429-1879年)に布かれたとされる「禁武政策」の歴史やその背景について知識を深めた．その際，主に琉球王国時代の文書およびビジュアル史料に関する第一次史料・第二次資料紹介があり，その資料についての解説も受けた．加えて，沖縄県立博物館・美術館および那覇市歴史博物館に所蔵されている屏風や絵などの第一次史料を調査し，沖縄県立芸術大学にある文献や資料も調べた．さらに，沖縄県立図書館での文献史料調査も実施した．また，令和４年度中，研究テーマに関連する特に新刊の書籍や論文の把握に努め，これらの第二次資料を収集した．
