本研究は、学徒兵の戦場での読書行為の様相を、実証的かつ総合的に明らかにしていくことで、アジア・太平洋戦争以降、読書の枠組みがどのように組み替えられ、または固定化されてきたのかという、読書行為の認識そのものを問うことを目的としている。本年度は以下のような研究を実施した。昨年度に引き続き、戦時下学生の読書関係資料の収集、調査を継続した。その中で、文部省と日本出版文化協会による良書推薦制度についての分析を行った。その成果は、20世紀メディア研究所発行『Intelligence』に掲載予定である。また、入手困難とされていた雑誌『新若人』（旺文社）の学生向け読書関連記事についての考察を行うことで、戦時下の学生の読書に対する意識変化を明らかにした。その成果は「雑誌「新若人」について 付・「学徒は如何なるものを読む可きか」アンケート結果一覧」として、『リテラシー史研究』(8)に掲載されている。また、昨年度の高知大学に所蔵される木村久夫の蔵書調査から判明した、戦時下の木村久夫の読書状況について、『東京新聞』（夕刊）に寄稿した。当該年度は、戦場における学徒兵（知識階級層）の読書についての考察のため、『兵隊』や『陣中倶楽部』などの戦場に流通していた雑誌について分析を行った。中国大陸における代表的二誌の読者層を明らかにし、その成果については日本出版協会発行『出版研究』に掲載予定である。さらに、当該年度は戦後の「戦場における読書」に関する表現の分析にも着手した。『きけ わだつみのこえ』収録の手記に掲載されている読書状況をはじめ、大西巨人『神聖喜劇』などテクストに記された戦場での読書の分析を進めることが出来た。その成果については、学会誌に投稿予定である。
