英文摘要
Heart failure is a common medical condition that causes the deaths of 200,000 people a year in the United Kingdom. Heart failure can be broadly categorised into two different type, and one them is called Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection fraction or HFpEF. The heart is a pump, filling with blood and then pumping it out to the rest of the body by contracting. This happens every time every time the heart beats. The problem for people with HFpEF is that their heart does not relax and fill with blood properly, not only directly impairing its ability to pump efficiently, but also causing triggering other changes in the heart tissue that make the situation progressively worse. We have identified an early stage drug that shows promise in the treatment of HFpEF, but we require more funds to enable work developing and evaluating this compound and derivatives we are making before studies in humans are possible. We think our studies are important as there are no drugs at this time that are effective in the treatment of HFpEF patients and unfortunately, this condition continues to become more prevalent.
