DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): The Flow Cytometry Core Facility has served as the principal resource for cutting edge biomedical research performed by members of the NIH-funded USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center for the past 15 years. The purpose of this grant is to replace the present cell sorter obtained in 1987 which the manufacturer has declared will become obsolete in the summer of 2001. After this time the manufacturer cannot gaurantee parts or product s for the flourochhromes now in widespread usage as conjugates for monoclonal antibodies, especially for tetramer staining. In addition, three-color analysis is no longer adequate for many of our investigators. The replacement instrument will provide 5 and even 6-color analysis for the purpose of identifying and sorting rare cells, and the sorting efficiency of the new instrument will be greatly enhanced. This new instrument will allow us the flexibility to develop new uses for the flow cytometer as dictated by our current and future users.
