The lack of vascularisation is the main bottleneck of bioprinting functional organs. This project will develop vascular branches with varying inner diameters by using co-axial extrusion bioprinting. The fabricated hydrogels will be reinforced with electrospun nanofibres. Integrating electrospun nanofibres into hydrogels can synthesise materials with tuneable mechanical properties. Incorporation of nanofibres can be performed by electrospinning on the structure or by mixing electrospun fibres into the hydrogel. The morphology, the mechanical properties of the branches, the long-term cell viability, and the function of the encapsulated cells will be investigated.
