This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. Test whether sleep dependent learning on a texture discrimination task increases fMRI activation in retinotopic areas of visual cortex and that nap and nocturnal sleep dependent learning will have equal influences on these fMRI responses. Test whether perceptual deterioration on a texture discrimination task correlates with decreases in fMRI activation in retinotopic areas of visual cortex. Test whether decreases in performance and the corresponding fMRI deactivation after repeated perceptual testing can be restored to baseline levels by an hour nap rich in SWS.
