This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a prospective observational trial to assess the negative predictive value of combined multidetector computer assisted tomography (CT) angiography and CT venography in the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism. Patient's with negative CT angiograms will be followed for 3 months after testing to determine whether or not they have evidence of subsequent venous thromboembolism. The diagnosis of recurrent venous thromboembolism will be the reference standard for diagnositc testing and to determine the negative predicted value of the test. Ideally, this will allow us to use CT angiography combined with CT venography as a one-step solution to the problem of pulmonary embolism diagnosis.
