ADRENERGIC STIMULATION DURING LOW-LEVEL HANDGRIP EXERCISE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Exercising muscle needs more blood than resting muscle. Therefore, when a person exercises, their body needs to divert blood from resting muscles to 'feed' the exercising muscles. The mechanism that allows exercising muscles to demand more blood while resting muscles have decreased blood flow is not understood. Many scientists feel that this process has to do with receptors on the cells of the muscles and blood vessels. This study is designed to give certain drugs (that are known to affect certain receptors) to decrease the signal of the exercising muscle to demand blood flow. This study will compare these responses between people diagnosed with Heart Failure and normal people. 45 volunteers will be in this study.
