TRIAL OF ANTENATAL CORTICOSTEROID REGIMENS IN PTS AT RISK FOR PRETERM DELIVERY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a randomized, double-blind placebo controlled prospective multi-center clinical trial designed to address the efficacy and risk associated with repetitive dosing of corticosteroids on fetal maturation. Two corticosteroid treatment regimens will be compared in patients less than 32 weeks gestation at risk for preterm delivery who remain pregnant more than 7 days after an initial course of steroids. Patients will be randomized to receive weekly courses of corticosteroids for either 4 weeks, until 34 weeks gestation or delivery, or to receive weekly courses of placebo. Approximately 150-200 women at MHMC between 23-32 weeks gestation at high risk for preterm delivery will be recruited. Infants will have long term follow-up for three years.
