This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. With over 200,000 images collected over the last 6 years, and an aging electronic notebook system unable to deal with such large volumes of data (EMEN), we are developing a completely new system (EMEN2). This system is much more scalable and built using Web 2.0 technologies, such as google-maps style image browsing, and other advanced features. This new database will also offer much more flexibility in data storage, a mechanism for archiving experimental protocols and permit very complicated data mining queries on the aggregate data/metadata in the database. We currently archive over 10 terabytes of experimental data with ~300,000 experimental records. The database is now being used by over 500 people, most of which are NCMI collaborators.
