Administrative Supplement Project Summary The Administrative Supplement of the Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health (PRCCEH, P2CES033428) will support the mission of research, training, and translation on climate change and children’s environmental health. We will expand the existing thematic areas on lead exposure and harm reduction, asthma, air pollution, and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) to include a new area on climate change. In the supplement, we will achieve three specific aims: 1) to investigate the role of ambient temperature, heat index, and air pollution on birth outcomes and placental health; 2) to enhance the capacity of early stage investigators (ESIs) and trainees on the research and translation in the area of climate change and child health; 3) to develop and implement translational products on climate change and pregnancy, neonatal, childhood health outcomes to reduce the impact on pregnant people and children. In Aim 1, we will have two sub-aims: 1a) climate change, air pollution, and preterm birth and small-for-gestational-age using Pennsylvania birth registry data 2010-2020; 1b) climate change, air pollution, and placental health using the existing data and biospecimen from Hospital at University of Pennsylvania. In Aim 2, we will organize a workshop to enhance research capacity in the PRCCEH on climate change and children’s health, provide pilot funding support for research and developing translational products, and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion activities for climate change research and translation. In Aim 3, we will develop and implement new translational products for clinical and community use, address community concerns on heat action plan, and include climate change workshop for public school teachers with a focus on children’s environmental health. The supplement will support four Core Pillars of Climate Change and Health Initiative (CCH) at NIH: Health Effects Research, Health Equity, Intervention Research, and Training and Capacity Building. It will strengthen the PRCCEH research and translation activities to provide useful tools and information to the communities affected by climate change.
