The merchant Vessel Highland Chief is a platform of the Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP) facility. <br /> The vessel cruises routinely between south-east of Australia (Melbourne) and Papua New Guinea, including New Zealand, New Caledonia and Solomon Islands. This is a container ship (callsigh VROB), 158 m length (beam 22 m, draught - 8 m)<br /> <br /> Bulk SST is measured by SBE48 hull contact sensor. The sensor is installed in --- and its depth is varied from - to - meters (depending on loading of vessel). SST data (along with meteorological data from ship AWS) are instantaneous, collected hourly.<br /> <br /> The data are quality controlled by the Bureau of Meteorology. The daily data files are available from eMII shortly after 0000 UTC.
