英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The Maine INBRE Bioinformatics Core facilitates data management and analysis by providing essential software, access to molecular databases and biomedical journals and capabilities for data storage. The Core also supports development of the Maine INBRE website and communication networks for INBRE institutions to facilitate multi-center research and resource sharing and the confidential exchange of data.
Bioinformatics capabilities increased with online access to additional sequence analysis tools and custom sequence data sets. The Core expanded the spectrum of available software to include programs for motif-finding, establishing automated workflows and clustering Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs). The Core continued to facilitate comparative genomics research by providing online access to valuable biological databases, online subscriptions to the Nature suite of journals and by providing bioinformatics presentations at INBRE-supported undergraduate courses and junior faculty meetings. Implementation of a networked storage device and tape library enhanced the data storage capacity for computational and microscopy components of research projects and ensured the protection of INBRE-supported scientific data. Communications capabilities expanded with the implementation of a multipoint conferencing unit, which enables automated scheduling of videoconference meetings involving up to 20 institutions. The content of the Maine INBRE website was enhanced substantially. Major additions include information about junior faculty and their research projects, Core resources, news and events of the Maine INBRE program and grant and administrative support information for junior faculty. The bioinformatics research and communication needs of investigators continue to be evaluated and reflected in ongoing development of the website and Core resources.
