This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Because of the increasing use of the CCD camera for data collection and the number of collaborative projects, we have developed an electron microscope electronic notebook (EMEN) for archiving all the relevant electron microscope and specimen preparation parameters. This will allow not only a permanent archival of our data but also facilitate the data mining for improving various aspects of specimen preparation and data collection protocols. We are undergoing an expansion of the current database in terms of design and capability to cope with our increasing amount of data.
