TREATMENT OF HEPATIC STEATOSIS ASSOCIATED WITH TOTAL PARENTAL NUTRITION

Choline deficiency causes hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) in over 50% of patients who require long-term parenteral nutrition. The purpose of this study is to determine if the addition of choline chloride to intravenous (received via a vein) nutrition solutions (TPN) can treat low levels of choline in the body (choline deficiency) or hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) associated with long-term use of TPN. Choline chloride is a research or investigational drug and is approved by the FDA only for use in studies such as this one.
