英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Choline deficiency causes hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) in over 50% of patients who require long-term parenteral nutrition. The purpose of this study is to determine if the addition of choline chloride to intravenous (received via a vein) nutrition solutions (TPN) can treat low levels of choline in the body (choline deficiency) or hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) associated with long-term use of TPN. Choline chloride is a research or investigational drug and is approved by the FDA only for use in studies such as this one.
