英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Bacterial sepsis continues to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality in newborns, particularly in low-birth-weight infants. Four percent of deaths in the first 3 days of postnatal life and 45% of deaths are related to infections, with no change in this pattern for the last 15 years. Bacterial sepsis occurs in 1% to 10% of term newborns and is up to 50 times more common in infants with a birth weight <800 g. Aim of the work: to evaluate markers, namely Procalcitonin, IL-10, CD 64, and C-reactive protein for early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis and to identify the optimal cut off value of each marker.
